At The Associated Press , I worked on creating data narratives and interactives for their 2024 live elections result page and AP VoteCast. I collaborated with designers, journalists, and the back-end data team to translate complex election data into compelling graphics that appeal to a wide audience. I am constantly considering how to communicate electoral trends and outcomes, so that any audience can gain meaningful insights on the state of U.S. politics. For election night, I created a margin shift chart showing how a state’s counties, groups, and regions have changed since the 2020 election. The live election results page also included a few React components I built, a live updating ribbon, a typography need to win visualization, and a From The Decision Desk carousel. I also contributed to AP VoteCast, creating a barbell chart and horizontal bar chart to visualize voter responses. As part of post election analyses, I created a cartogram map with small multiple bar charts looking at changes in votes in each state from 2020 to 2024. I am incredibly proud of all the ways I contributed to the Associated Press’s visuals both on the live election results page & AP VoteCast. It was a record breaking night in term on views & new users. Read about the impact and engagement of our visuals here.

“I was beyond happy with Parker's work on the 2024 general election. She built four live results election visualizations from scratch in just a few months, all of which were technically complex and required preparing for a range of special cases and possible outcomes. She finished each component with a high degree of polish, paying particular attention to details like transitions that help create an exceptional user experience. Parker was also a great collaborator and immediately clicked with the designers, stakeholders and reporters that we regularly work with.
Our election results visuals received record setting traffic for the AP, which I truly believe had a lot to do with Parker's exceptional work.“
